Date: April 22, 2006
Location: Lapeer Woods
Details: My second hunt of the year with the Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club. I beleive everyone
managed to find at least a few blacks! I personally found 21 mushrooms!
These black morels were found growing in woods of poplar mixed with oak.
It was a beautiful day outside and a lot of fun to find these beauties.
The only other mushrooms I saw were black cups, I beleive Urnula craterium
but unfortunatly I didn't get a picture. Those aren't edible, but cool looking.

Location: Rochester Woods (Avon)
Details: My third hunt of the year with the Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club. This was an interesting
hunt to say the least. For the first three hours I only found a single Morel, a big white.
Antoine found 5 little whites during this time. When we got back to the cars everyone had
left but me and Antoine went out for one last quick check before the sun went down at a spot
a little ways up the road. We looked beneath some dying elms and sure enough under one of the
big ones was a HUGE patch of whites! I collected 43 under this tree and Antoine must have had
at least 50. It's too bad everyone else left early but I'm glad we got so many! Other
interesting mushrooms that were found include dryad saddles, Polyporus squamosus.
Also, Antoine found a really big false morel, Gyromitra brunnea I beleive.

Location: Lapeer Woods
Details: My fourth hunt of the year with the Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club. Hasn't been raining much
so I didn't really know what to expect but I ended up finding these black morels. The group
got split up when we were hunting and I had to leave before everyone met back up so I'm not
sure how the rest of the group did but I know that everyone that was near me was finding them
scattered about here and there, the woods was filled with hunters so the ground was getting
searched pretty thoroughly. Most the ones I found were either very young or a bit on the old side
but the good news is there were a lot of small ones so hopefully after a good rain we will see
a big flush of blacks again! I found todays mushrooms in poplar/oak again but this time the
better finds were closer to the oaks, probly because everyone had been hunting the poplars
pretty good. It was a fun hunt, I found 18 all together. Looking forward to finding more!

Location: Proud Lake Recreation Area
Details: My fifth hunt of the year with the Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club. It's been raining
A lot the past week or so. I managed to find most of these at the top of a hill by some
dead elm and white pine. It was right during the beginning of the hunt, went up the hill
to take a leak and saw morel stumps, looked around and sure enough, found some. Mickey
was the only group member I could find when I was done picking about 7 and I called him
over and we picked a few more. Had to unload them in the van before we headed back out.
Ended up finding about 4 more whites, one of them the massive one at the top. All were
beneath dying elm. Good hunt, I had good luck today (18 white morels total) and had a
lot of fun talking with everyone. I sure do like these hunts!
